Last night I slept with my Lenormand deck under my pillow with the hope that the cards would inspire my dreams. I woke up this morning from a vivid and compelling dream which did in fact feature several of the Lenormand Symbols: the House, the Lady, the Sun and the Clouds.
In the dream I was at my mother’s house. She was standing at her back door which leads out onto a porch, and then down a flight of steps to the back yard. She was holding the door open and calling to me to come see the storm that was brewing overhead.
I came up behind mom and looked out the open door and up into the sky. I saw dark, menacing clouds quickly gathering in the west. The sun was impossibly large. It had risen halfway above the tree line, and took up the whole of the eastern sky. Despite the gloomy clouds, everything was too bright like an over-exposed photo image. My mother kept asking me why the sun was so big, and I couldn’t formulate a response. I was struck dumb by the black clouds and the huge blinding disk in the sky.
The dream certainly had an apocalyptic feel, but I’m not one to buy easily into the doomsday hype. I figure the dream must be a personal message from my subconscious mind activated by the Lenormand cards. Since the Lenormand inspired the dream, I decided to ask the cards what the dream means for me. For the signifier I chose the Moon which represents dreams and fantasies and the imagination.
In my readings the cards closest to the signifer always carry the most influence. The Fox represents deceptions and trickery, and the Ship indicates travel and movement and expansion. The core message of the dream is to move beyond what is false or untrue.
The Heart represents what I love or desire. The Fox warns that I’m not being true to my heart, or to what I feel passionate about in life. I get the impression of self-deception, insincere feelings and hidden desires. The Clover is about taking risks and capitalizing on opportunities and luck. The ship shows expansion and movement in the direction of those risks and opportunities.
Based on the cards, the message I get from the dream is that I’m not being true to my own heart. I’m deceiving myself in some way. The message is to move forward. I must be willing to take risks and grasp the opportunities that come my way.
I believe the card reading supports the Lenormand symbols in the dream. The House is the symbol that indicates safety, comfort and stability. I have the impression that in the dream my mom represents a motivating force (my subconscious?) urging me to shift my focus from the safety and security of the house to the outside world.
The Sun is another Lenormand symbol. It represents confidence and victory and success. In the dream the sun was too big and too bright. I was awed by the sun, suggesting that I feel overwhelmed by the idea of success. The Clouds are the fourth Lenormand symbol in the dream. They represent danger and failure, and my fear of the unknowable and the unforeseen.
The clouds have the power to block the light of the sun, overshadowing the feelings of victory and success. The Sun could also represent my ego and my confidence which might be overshadowed by the fears and insecurities represented by the Clouds. In the dream the sun was big and bright, but the clouds were quickly gathering to blot out the light.
I’m convinced that my subconscious mind was communicating with me in the dream state through the Lenormand symbols, but I can’t decide if the message deals with fear of failure or fear of success. Either way, I suspect that the dream refers to my inability to release my fears about reading the cards professionally.
My Mother keeps pushing me to go public with my readings. She is a professional tarot reader, and she has offered to set me up with a few of her clients. I just don’t feel ready. The Lenormand cards truly are my life’s passion, but the truth is I don’t know if I’ll ever feel ready.
I went straight from the dream- transferring it into lenormand language.
The Line: 11-04-07 28 06-31-12
The door of your mom’s house. 11 the Whips/Broom can also be a door or portal that divides inside from outside; private from public; 04-07 your Mom’s house. Here this like all dreams has a double meaning. Your Mother’s house is not only her physical domicile but where she reads the cards. The Whips and Broom are not just the portal but the “language of the cards. The Whips also speaks as an open door of going from inside friends family and acquaintances to reading outside for the public. She is opening the door for you…
28- is the Gent or you the dreamer
06-31- is the clouds of doubt you have about your ability to “see” the messages or read the cards (the sun 31 is reading, seeing) . 12- the birds follows to indicate the big sun. The large orb say that you can see the messages quite well- twice as well as you believe. You are your mother;s sun/son! There is no need to doubt your ability. It is greater ( large sun) than your doubts! You must press ahead. Take the next step.
Success!
Thank you Mama Whodun. I appreciate your kind words and encouragement.
